"No Future" was the motto of the punks of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their rejection was directed at both the bourgeois bourgeois existence and the false promises of the hippies. When their attitude degenerated into a pose, the form was renewed and continued in other musical genres (from jazz to techno). The sound of no future is called post-punk.
Under this label, Brechtnacht 2024 presented music by Mulatu Astatke (Ethiopia), Isokratisses (Greece), NOUT featuring Mats Gustafsson (France/Sweden), Güner Künier (Berlin), What Are People For? (Munich), Das Format (Augsburg), Kalte Hand (Augsburg) and TSV Projektförderung e.S. präsentiert Darmstadt Express (Augsburg). To kick things off, festival director Julian Warner and pop theorist Diedrich Diederichsen discussed the "praise of negativity" as a gesture and DNA of punk.
