The 2026 Brecht Festival underlines the call for solidarity and participation in Bertolt Brecht's work and is building on inclusion in its first year under new artistic direction. Theater premieres, international guest performances, concerts, readings, creative workshops and interventions will be presented under the motto "ALL". The festival unfolds on numerous stages throughout the city - in the interim venues of the Staatstheater, the abraxas, the State Textile and Industrial Museum, the Planetarium, the city library, the Small Golden Hall and the festival center not far from Rathausplatz. There you can drop by without obligation, get information, learn something new, dance, play or simply enjoy a drink in the sociable atmosphere of the inclusive festival café. ALL is both an invitation and a mission: it stands for participation, diversity and openness - in art and in society.

Profile
Bertolt Brecht was born in Augsburg in 1898. With the Brecht Festival, the city renews its commitment to the artistic legacy of the world-famous writer and poet and celebrates him as a driving force and innovator in a wide variety of genres. With the Staatstheater Augsburg as a cooperation partner and program contributions from Augsburg's independent scene, the festival has established a firm place for itself on the international festival scene in the fields of theater, literature and music. It is anchored in the local scene, but is also well networked nationally and internationally. Thanks to the rotation principle for the artistic direction, new artistic accents are set every three years through guest performance invitations, co-productions, literary formats, workshops and music concerts with supra-regional perception. Shifting genre boundaries has always been part of the festival's self-image and defines the program.
The Brecht Festival is theater, literature, music and discourse. It performs, presents, produces and provokes. It generates discussion and opinions. The Brecht Festival is pop and choral cantata. It can use a sledgehammer and subtlety. It gets down to business and cleans up. Controversial and entertaining, merciless and sensual. Entirely in the spirit of its namesake Bertolt Brecht.
