God's Entertainment: "Under the carpet"
ab 31.01.2023
Carpets have always been migrated objects, symbols of culture and exchange. God's Entertainment bring a loom with them to Augsburg. The collective weaving that follows becomes a symbol for questions about human movement of all kinds, the cultural and social nature and structure of life.
During the warm-up phase of the festival, a Cilím carpet with the motif of the young Bertolt Brecht will be created: Under professional guidance, a fixed group will weave the carpet together with God's Entertainment. During public weaving sessions, the group will alternate with guests and passers-by who will support the collective work process. No previous knowledge is required, everyone is invited to join in the weaving. As the warp and weft threads join together, direct connections are created in conversations.
God's Entertainment are researching themes and stories that are directly or indirectly related to Brecht's life and work or his production methods. The collected material will be used to create an installation of image and video material parallel to the carpet, which will be presented during the festival.
The installation "Under the carpet" refers to Brecht and everything that we would actually like to "sweep under the carpet", i.e. put out of sight, because it is embarrassing or causes discomfort. Visitors to the installation are invited to engage with this content and to try out a new physical stance in the process.
