Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra
The focus is on the eight symphony concerts with renowned guest soloists and conductors. In addition to the traditional New Year's concert, the Christmas concert, the concert in the Golden Hall and the gala programs, there are also the large open-air concerts on the open-air stage at the Red Gate. Composition commissions are regularly awarded and world premieres presented as part of the symphony concerts.
In addition, there are numerous special concerts, including interdisciplinary ones, such as ZUKUNFT(S)MUSIK, a format for new and contemporary music, the chamber music series organized by the musicians themselves and innovative musical projects, such as a virtual concert that audiences can experience in their own homes thanks to VR glasses.
The repertoire of the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra therefore covers not only a wide range of music history, but also a broad stylistic spectrum.
The orchestra's central concern is educational work, with formats for different class levels, digital or live on site, from rehearsal visits to large family concerts. In close cooperation with the theater education department, they reach several thousand young people in and around Augsburg every year.
Thanks to the numerous collaborations between the Augsburg State Theatre and the local independent scene as well as with municipal event organizers, the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra is involved in a wide variety of projects - from festive concerts such as those at the Mozart Festival to crossover sounds at the Festival of Cultures or the brechtbühne un/plugged series.
The Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra is a member of Orchester des Wandels Deutschland e. V. - an active network of professional musicians who see the protection of the climate and the environment as an essential part of their cultural mission. They participate in environmental protection projects and organize new concert formats on the subject of the climate crisis.
