Every story has its own heroes - but what happens to the heroes and heroines after their supposedly glorious and selfless deeds? In "The Judith of Shimoda" - based on a play by Yamamoto Yuzo and in collaboration with Hella Wuolijoki - Brecht addresses precisely this question: in the middle of the 19th century, the singer and geisha Okichi succeeds in preventing the bombardment of the port city of Shimoda by the USA and appeasing the American consul. She only wanted to save her hometown, but paid a high price for it.
The theter ensemble tells and discusses the tragic case of the Japanese heroine in the Augsburg City Club, and asks about social responsibility.
