Brecht brings everything together: Circus, anti-fascism, the plight of refugees and the defeat of great social utopias. Meret Becker's poetic collage shows how strongly Brecht's themes resonate with current world events, the unchanged conditions, they return in ballads such as "Ostern ist Bals sur la Seine" or the "Ballade vom ertrunkenen Mädchen" to the "Kinderkreuzzug", which is as emotional as Brecht can only be in his poetry, reminding us of the plight of the innocent. "With a gentle tremolo, Becker's voice creeps deep into the soul, where it remains for a long time. An experience, a poignant gift" (Süddeutsche Zeitung)
Press comment:
"Then Meret Becker found strong images for her collage as the last festival premiere. She combined circus and Hitler imitation, read Brecht's 'Children's Crusade' in such a way that this increasingly oppressive text remained in the foreground and was skillfully reinforced by individual film images. In the end, one would have liked to have seen more of it."
