For which creatures is democracy? How can, will, may, should such different creatures as the ornamental banana, the amber forest cockroach and the Wolbachia bacterium live together in a limited space? Augsburg's first republic of organisms deals with questions like these.
It is being created in the heart of the city, in the ramparts at the Red Gate. The artist group Club Real has discovered a multitude of living creatures on the site. The balance of power is being reshuffled in a political field experiment. Every visitor can get involved! We are looking for people who will give 49 species a voice in the founding phase of the republic: Because every state needs a basic law, needs rules to which its citizens adhere - the advocates of the living beings of the Republic of Organisms establish these rules. Club Real provides them with the most important information on the needs of the individual living beings and offers guided tours and individual encounters with species on the national territory before the constituent assembly. Club Real invites all festival visitors to participate in the Constituent Assembly on February 18, 2023.
The constitution forms the basis for a parliament of living beings, which will be convened in summer/autumn 2023. The project will conclude in 2025 with a constitutional court to examine whether the parliament's decisions have been implemented according to the rules.
