Wiard Witholt
Wiard Witholt studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam with David Wilson-Johnson. He was a member of the Opera Studio Nederland from 2005 to 2006 and then of the Atelier Lyrique at the Opéra national de Paris until 2008. He attended master classes with Jard van Nes, Robert Holl, Ann Murray, Graham Clark and Brigitte Fassbaender.
Since August 2009, he has been a member of the ensemble of the Anhaltisches Theater in Dessau, where he has appeared in roles such as Heerrufer in "Lohengrin", Maximilian in Bernstein's "Candide", Pietro in "La Muette de Portici" by Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (this production was released on CD in 2013), Gabriel von Eisenstein in "Die Fledermaus", Silvio in "Pagliacci", Valentin in Gounod's "Faust", Danilo in "Die lustige Witwe", Belcore in "L'elisir d'amore", Zurga in Bizet's "Les Pêcheurs de perles", Mr X in Kálmán's "Zirkusprinzessin" and most recently as Angelotti in "Tosca".
The baritone has devoted himself intensively to the music of Bach and Handel for many years, singing the "St. Matthew" and "St. John Passion" and the bass roles in the "Christmas Oratorio" and "Mass in B minor", as well as more than forty cantatas by Bach, Handel's "Messiah" and "Joshua". He made his debut at the Opéra national de Paris at the Palais Garnier in 2007 with Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen".

His opera engagements have taken him to Madrid, Liège, Strasbourg and Munich. He took part in a film by Alex Ranisch in collaboration with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich and performed the role of Shemariah in Zeisl's "Job" at the Bavarian State Opera in summer 2014. Recent projects have included Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" again at the Leipzig Opera and Don Alvaro in Rossini's "Il viaggio a Reims" in a version for children in Amsterdam at the beginning of 2015. Further guest appearances have taken him to Brussels, Maastricht, Rennes, St. Petersburg, Vilnius, Luxembourg, Tokyo and Osaka, among others.
