Thais di Marco
The queer director, choreographer and performer Thais di Marco (she/they) currently lives in Amsterdam. She grew up in Sao Paulo in a Candomblé (an Afro-Brazilian religion with its roots in West Africa) community and is of Roma descent.
Her works deal with power structures in the art world and in a wider social context. The resulting performances deal with structural violence in neoliberalism, patriarchal structures and colonialism, among other things.
One of their current projects ("The Goldfish Bleeding in a Sea of Sharks - Wrestling Club") is a performance based on the theme of Lucha Libre, a Latin American form of wrestling. It reflects and reacts to the effects of neoliberalism and neoliberal ideology.
Thais has worked in artist-led social movements and independent cultural centers in countries such as Mexico, Benin, Iran, Bolivia, Brazil and the Netherlands.
