Kate Allen
Irish mezzo-soprano Kate Allen has been thrilling audiences on international opera and concert stages for years. As a scholarship holder of the Merola Opera Program at San Francisco Opera, she was awarded the Zheng Cao Memorial Scholarship in 2013 for her portrayal of the title role in Britten's "The Rape of Lucretia". Kate Allen worked for two years at the Music Academy of the West with Marilyn Horne. She was also a guest at Opera Santa Barbara and was a member of the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists in 2014. In the same year, she was awarded the "Aria" audience prize at the Wexford Festival. She made her Italian debut at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice at a gala concert conducted by Lorin Maazel. At the Bad Immling Festival in 2016, the mezzo-soprano sang Eustazio in Handel's "Rinaldo" and the 3rd lady in Mozart's "The Magic Flute".
In 2017, she made her debut with Northern Ireland Opera as Tigrane in Handel's "Radamisto" and with the Ulster Orchestra in Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the direction of Rafael Payare. She was also heard as a soloist in Verdi's "Messa da Requiem" in Fulda Cathedral - a role she already sang with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2016. As part of the Heidenheim Opera Festival, Kate Allen performed at the gala concert and in Verdi's "I Lombardi alla prima crociata". She also has further concerts coming up in her native Ireland. Important roles in her repertoire include Maddalena ("Rigoletto"), Concepción ("L'Heure espagnole"), Suzuki ("Madama Butterfly"), Clothilde in Frederick Delius' "Koanga", Gertrud and the Witch ("Hänsel und Gretel") and Madeleine Audebert in Kevin Puts' "Silent Night".
Kate Allen has been a permanent ensemble member at the Staatstheater Augsburg since the 2018/19 season.
Participations
