Avtandil Kaspeli
Avtandil Kaspeli came to singing via the oboe. The Georgian bass began his studies at the State Conservatory in his home city of Tbilisi before completing them with Prof. Nikolaus Hillebrand at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich. He made his debut with the Mozartensemble Munich as Sparafucile in Verdi's "Rigoletto". At the Prinzregententheater, he was heard under David Stahl as Colas in Mozart's "Bastien und Bastienne" and Schnock in Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" as well as the Commendatore in Mozart's "Don Giovanni". The bass also appears regularly as a concert and opera singer in Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Georgia.
He has been a member of the ensemble at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe since 2011/12. There he sang roles such as Bartolo in "The Marriage of Figaro", Commendatore in "Don Giovanni", Sarastro, Speaker and Second Armorer in "The Magic Flute", Zacharias in "The Prophet", Hector and Mercury in "The Trojans", Zuniga in "Carmen", Banquo in "Macbeth", Sparafucile in "Rigoletto", Pistola in "Falstaff", Landgrave in "Tannhäuser", Fafner and Hunding in "Ring des Nibelungen", Titurel in "Parsifal", Pimen in "Boris Godunov", Angelotti in "Tosca" and Colline in "La Bohème", Lorenzo in Bellini's "I Capuleti e i Montecchi" and the Prince in "Adriana Lecouvreur". In 2017/18, in addition to his duties in Karlsruhe, he also sang the Landgrave in Patrick Kinmoth's new production of "Tannhäuser", as well as Bartolo in Mozart's "Figaro" and the Commendatore in "Don Giovanni" at the Cologne Opera. He recently appeared at the Deutsches Nationaltheater in Weimar as Ramphis in "Aida", Cherea in "Caligula" and Zuniga in "Carmen".
