Aras Ören
Aras Ören was born in Istanbul in 1939 and has lived in Berlin since 1969. He has worked as an actor and dramaturge at various theaters, was an editor at SFB and head of the Turkish editorial department of Radio Multikulti at RBB. As a writer, Ören mostly writes in Turkish and collaborates on the translation of his works into German. In his works, he repeatedly deals with the themes of foreignness, identity, homelessness, discrimination against women and rebellion. Aras Ören was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize in 1985 and held a lectureship in poetics at the University of Tübingen in 1999. He has been a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin, since 2012. His works include "Was will Niyazi in der Naunynstraße" (1973), "Deutschland. Ein türkisches Märchen" (1978), "Bitte nix Polizei" (1981), "Berlin - Savignyplatz" (1995). The "Berlin Trilogy" was published in 2019.
